All you need to know about the plumbers cleaning the stacks

Stack cleaning has a high priority. Don’t wait for the Holiday Grand Plan or Christmas Countdown because the weather will be uncomfortable. Ummm, you can book the time of the professional’s visit because the warm season is warm in all senses.

The stack cleaning description

All water equipment connects to one or more stacks depending on the condo size. Bathrooms and kitchens have different routes. The first group has more chances to collect the sewage ore clogs, but we recommend you match bathroom and kitchen stack cleanout to save time and money.

Before we move to the cleaning description, let’s explain to you the principal notions. All process starts from the stack. It’s the pipe transporting the water and human waste to the next step – flushing to the building sewer. The human wastes are pee and poo.

The building sewer is a short pipe of a bigger diameter for condos and longer for higher houses. More sinks and toilets – more connections to that pipe.

Your building sewer connects to the wider transport system. It transports the wastewater to the municipal collector for recycling. It’s harder to clog it, but that will be real if everybody is without a head. Add the leaves and stones from the city streets and be lucky.

When the pipe is clogged, the technician needs access to the cleanout. It’s the entrance allowing to inspect the pipe and clean it if needed. The house has one or more cleanouts inside or outside the walls.

The interval between maintenance varies from annual to every three years. This frequency depends on the building’s age and the volume of waste flushed with the water. Thus, the cleaners unclog the pipes using different instruments.

Why do you need the plumbing maintenance

Every time somebody uses the bathroom, it fills the drain system with traditional liquids, toilet paper, hair, (occasionally or not) baby wipes, feminine products, etc. These products occupy bigger parts of the pipe. When the water reaches it, it moves them to a narrow place. And oops, welcome the sewage smell and overflowing.

The homeowner has two ways to act. First is using other facilities till it’s possible. It isolates the problematic toilet or sink and looks happy for a certain period of time. But the problem may turn into distress when the facilities refuse to work by effect.

Even a small package may cause a big problem. It may be enough for it to pass the apartment and building sewer. But if it meets the brothers and sisters together with tons of other rubbish, these may block the connection. That results in the blockage of the waste behind it. And here comes the ecological distress requiring the help of municipal services to clean it. That’s the price of somebody’s carelessness.

Thus, you need to call the plumber immediately if you notice the problem. Of course, inform your neighbors if you live in a multi-storeyed building or if the problem appeared in the public line.

How do the plumbers clean the stacks

After you have scheduled the visit, we use these steps to complete the order:

  • Visit number 1 supposes inspecting the type of roof. We need convenient routes to access the top floor if the roof isn’t flat.
  • Also, we identify the parkade and main level cleanouts;
  • Building schematics if these cleanouts are on your property.

Alert your relatives and/or neighbours about the scheduled event. At least one person should be at home even it’s not affected.

The technician visits the home according to the schedule and starts cleaning. Access from the roof is beneficial, but if it’s impossible, we’ll remove the toilet instead. Another advantage is a socket nearby because the plumber exploits the auger. It’s a machine with a head. It moves in the drain pipe and collects all garbage inside it. This head changes the heading from horizontal to vertical. This machine is effective till it reaches the main city line.

Besides this instrument, our plumbers often need auxiliary tools that help us to remove specific rubbish. They’re vacuum cleaners, trimmers and so on.

Sometimes our customers discover something unusual or missed things there like toys, or missed things. We can return them, but the smell… Most of these things fall in the pipe during children’s games. Or hooligans who want to destroy the lives of their neighbours.

The POM Plumbing Company serves Toronto and the suburbs. We don’t have limits except for the working schedule. It’s Monday to Saturday, 8 to 18 hours. Usually, we’re closed for public holidays, but some plumbers are on duty because nobody wants to spoil the day.
